Getting there – Getting around

The three regions (Minganie, Anticosti and Lower North Shore) are vastly different when it comes to transportation and accessibility.

Minganie

The region that spans from Rivière-Au-Tonnerre to Natashquan. Highway #138 starts in Montreal, continues to Quebec City, Charlevoix and the North Shore and comes to an end in Natashquan. It takes 4 hours, non-stop, to go from Sept-Iles to Natashquan. Here, the automobile is the main mode of transport.

It is also possible to embark on the ferry Nordik Express departing from Sept-Iles to stop in Havre-Saint-Pierre and Natashquan. See here for the schedule .

There is also an intercity minibus service, with Intercar, departing from Sept-Iles to Havre-Saint-Pierre.

Regarding the air transport, Havre-Saint-Pierre and Natashquan both have airports but it is Sept-Iles that offers the best value to access the territory because of the numerous flights departing from Montreal or Quebec City.

Anticosti

A huge Island (the distance between Quebec City and Montreal) that is not accessible by automobile. Access is either by airplane (regular flights with Aeropro from Sept-Iles http://www.aeropro.qc.ca/vols-touristiques-recreatifs/anticosti), a chartered flight with our agency, Coste, or the zodiac departing from Riviere-au-Tonnerre. Getting there is relatively simple but the difficulty lies with getting around on the Island. Public transport is not available. Therefore it is necessary to take a tour package, which is what we are offering, by plane or by zodiac.

The Lower North Shore

Only one stretch of road, from Blanc-Sablon to Vieux-Fort for a distance of approximately 60 kilometres. To get there, you must either enter from Labrador or take the ferry arriving from Newfoundland. So it goes without saying that by plane and by boat are the best ways of getting around this harsh territory where only the rarest of tourist adventure because of its lack of accessibility. Regular airfare (Air Labrador) is expensive which is why it is so much more relevant to book an all-inclusive tour package with Coste or travel on the Nordik Express ferry, which services all of the villages on the Lower North Shore, and take the excursion offered aboard by the Coste representative.
